Maintained status can protect a worker who applies to extend or change a work permit before the existing permit expires. To continue working under maintained status, the worker generally must remain in Canada; leaving Canada can affect the ability to work until the new permit is approved.

Travel requires separate planning. A pending BOWP application is not itself a guarantee of re-entry or continued work authorization after leaving Canada.
