“The right international education decision is not simply about admission — it is about choosing a pathway that makes sense for your future.”
— Santosh Ramrakhiani, Managing Director
Santosh RamrakhianiManaging Director, Future Link Consultants · Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) since 2011 · RCIC registration R506940.
Professional foundation RCIC-authorized Canadian immigration practice, CICC membership/authorization and AIRC recognition since 2013.

Why these credentials matter to a UK-study client

Long operating history supports a mature, process-driven counselling environment.
AIRC recognition reflects a professional focus on international student recruitment standards.
RCIC experience adds depth in immigration documentation and refusal-aware case preparation, while UK visa decisions remain with UK Visas and Immigration.
FLC connects education selection, documentation, funding and visa readiness into one client journey.
Important: RCIC authorization relates to Canadian immigration practice. It does not make an RCIC a UK immigration officer or UK legal representative. For UK study, FLC provides education, admissions and visa-preparation guidance; UKVI makes the immigration decision.

Why study in the United Kingdom?

The UK combines globally recognised universities, focused degree structures and an established international student ecosystem across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Recognised universities The UK is home to globally recognised institutions, including Russell Group universities and many modern career-focused providers.
Focused degree structures Many bachelor's programmes are three years in much of the UK, while many master's programmes are one year; course length varies and Scotland commonly uses four-year bachelor's degrees.
Strong course choice Business, computing, engineering, healthcare, data, finance, law, design and many specialist fields are widely available.
International environment UK campuses bring together students from across the world, supporting international networks and cross-cultural experience.
Career-linked study Selected programmes offer placements, internships and industry exposure where built into the course.
Post-study route Eligible graduates may use the Graduate Route, subject to the rules in force when they apply.

FLC's UK-study USP

We build the UK plan around the student: academic history → career objective → realistic course level → university fit → tuition and living budget → funding evidence → CAS readiness → visa preparation.
Profile-first counselling We focus on academic progression, career direction, entry requirements and budget before building the shortlist.
Refusal-aware preparation Previous refusals, financial inconsistencies, course changes, study gaps and credibility concerns are assessed before reapplication is considered.

Choose the UK pathway that fits your profile.

Study levelTypical pathwayFLC planning focus
UndergraduateBachelor's degree, often through UCAS for many full-time courses.12th-grade profile, course prerequisites, English, personal statement/application strategy and budget.
Postgraduate taughtMaster's / taught postgraduate programmes.Bachelor's relevance, academic standing, English, CV, references, personal statement and career progression.
Research / doctoralMPhil / PhD / research-based higher degrees.Research fit, supervisor/faculty alignment, proposal where required and funding strategy.
Pathway / foundationInternational foundation, pre-master's or selected pathway programmes.Academic entry route, progression conditions, sponsor eligibility and overall cost.

Major UK intakes

September / Autumn The main intake with the widest programme availability at many institutions.
January / Winter A significant secondary intake for selected programmes and universities.
May / Other starts Available for selected institutions and programmes; availability is much more limited.

Illustrative tuition planning range

Planning categoryTypical client-planning rangeImportant note
International undergraduate£15,000–£30,000+ per yearActual fees vary by university, subject and location; medicine and specialist courses can be materially higher.
International postgraduate£15,000–£30,000+ per programme/yearMany UK master's programmes are one year, but fees vary significantly by university and subject.

These are illustrative FLC planning ranges, not fixed national fees. Always use the university's current published fee and the student's CAS for the case-specific amount.

Build the financial plan before the visa application.

Cost of living & visa financial requirement

£1,529
Per month in London · up to 9 months
£1,171
Per month outside London · up to 9 months
28 days
Funds normally held continuously for the evidence period
UKVI financial requirement: you normally need the first year's course fees shown on the CAS plus the required living-cost amount. The financial evidence generally must show the required funds for 28 consecutive days, with the evidence dated within 31 days of the visa application.

Who can provide the funds?

Your own personal bank or building society account.
A parent's money, with the required relationship evidence and permission to use the funds.
A partner's money where the rules allow it.
An eligible student loan.
Official financial sponsorship, such as government or university sponsorship.
Evidence must be genuine, accessible and capable of verification.

Financial evidence that needs attention

Keep the balance stable The account should show the required funds for the full 28-day period. Large unexplained movements can complicate documentary credibility.
Use permitted evidence UKVI guidance excludes sources such as overdrafts, cryptocurrency, stocks and shares, and certain non-electronic or unregulated bank accounts.

Dependants — additional maintenance

Where a dependant is eligible, additional maintenance is generally £845 per month in London or £680 per month outside London, for up to 9 months, subject to the applicable rules and evidence exemptions.

Prepare the application before the visa stage.

A strong UK study file is built in layers: admission documents first, then the offer/CAS stage, then a visa-ready evidence pack.

Scholarships & bursaries Check university-specific awards, departmental bursaries and external scholarships early. Awards are competitive and criteria differ by institution.
Education loans Where a loan is used, prepare the lender's documentation carefully and ensure it supports the actual funding plan.

What is the UK student visa called?

UK Student visa The current Student route replaced the Tier 4 (General) student visa. It is used for qualifying further and higher education study with a licensed student sponsor.
Child Student visa A separate route for eligible students aged 4–17 studying at an independent school. Most university students use the Student visa instead.
Timing: from outside the UK, the earliest you can normally apply is 6 months before the course start date. A standard outside-UK Student visa decision is usually made within 3 weeks, subject to the case and UKVI service conditions.

FLC approach: admissions documents should support one coherent academic and career story. A strong offer is more useful when the course choice, funding plan and future objective all align.

The visa file should read like one consistent story.

What UKVI may need to understand

Why this course? Be ready to explain the academic value and how it connects to your background and future plan.
Why this university? Know the programme, course structure, location and relevant reasons for choosing it.
Why the UK? Explain the specific academic or professional reasons for the chosen route.
Who is funding you? Your financial evidence and spoken explanation should be consistent.
What happens after study? Understand your lawful post-study options without presenting a false or misleading purpose.
Any unusual circumstances? Be prepared to explain gaps, changes of course, previous refusals or other relevant facts truthfully.
Credibility interviews: UKVI may require an applicant to attend an interview or provide additional information. There is no routine interview for every Student visa applicant.

2026 UK visa fees & government charges

ItemCurrent 2026 amount / rulePlanning note
Student visa application fee£558Current fee for applications from outside or inside the UK from 8 April 2026.
Immigration Health Surcharge£776 per year for studentsThe amount depends on visa length; the charge is calculated for the permission granted.
UCAS application fee · 2027 entry£34.50One fee covers up to five university/college choices (or six conservatoire choices).
TB testCase-dependentFor applicants coming from India for 6 months or more who meet the residence criteria, a TB certificate is required.

Premium/priority services and application-centre charges can be separate and may change.

Working while studying — understand the conditions.

Part-time work during study

Type of studyTypical Student visa work conditionImportant point
Full-time degree level or above at a higher education provider with a track record of complianceUp to 20 hours/week during term-time; full-time outside term-timeSubject to the visa conditions attached to the student's permission.
Full-time below-degree study at a qualifying higher education providerUp to 10 hours/week during term-timeFull-time outside term-time, subject to conditions.
Other study, including part-time studyNo employment permittedAlways check the actual visa conditions before starting work.

The current Immigration Rules distinguish work permission by course level, sponsor type and study mode.

Important work restrictions

Self-employment is not permitted under normal Student visa conditions.
Professional sportsperson or sports coach work is prohibited.
Some permanent full-time job arrangements are restricted under Student route conditions.
Course-integral work placements may be permitted where the Immigration Rules requirements are met.

Post-study work — Graduate Route

Bachelor's / Master's 2 years if the Graduate visa application is made on or before 31 December 2026; 18 months for applications on or after 1 January 2027.
PhD / other doctoral qualification 3 years under the Graduate Route rules.
Next-step pathway: a Graduate visa cannot be extended, but a graduate may later qualify to switch into another immigration route, such as Skilled Worker, if the relevant requirements are met.

Can family accompany the student?

Spouse / children → dependant route, where eligible Dependant eligibility is now restricted. Generally, the student must be government-sponsored for a qualifying course over 6 months, or studying a qualifying postgraduate research-based higher degree / doctorate under the current rules.
Parents → not Student dependants Parents are not included in the Student dependant route. They may consider an appropriate visitor route for a temporary visit, subject to the visitor requirements.
Do not assume family eligibility. Check the Student route and dependant rules for the exact course type, start date and sponsorship circumstances before planning a family move.

Refusal / reapplication support — where FLC expertise matters

1 · Diagnose Review the refusal wording, application information, finances, academic progression and supporting documents.
2 · Rebuild Identify what can be genuinely strengthened: funding, course rationale, documentation, credibility or factual explanations.
3 · Reapply strategically A reapplication should be truthful, materially stronger where possible and internally consistent.
FLC principle: we do not promise approval. We focus on a clearer, better-supported application and an honest explanation of the student's circumstances.

Frequently asked questions

The current UK Student route is the main visa category for eligible further and higher education study and replaced the Tier 4 (General) student visa.

You normally need your first year's course fees shown on the CAS plus maintenance funds of £1,529 per month in London or £1,171 per month outside London, for up to 9 months, unless an exemption applies.

The required funds generally need to be held for 28 consecutive days, with the financial evidence dated within 31 days of the visa application.

You usually need to prove English at the required level. At degree level or above the Student route generally requires CEFR B2; below degree level it is B1, with several alternative ways to demonstrate English knowledge.

For a course or stay of 6 months or more, applicants who have lived in India for 6 months or more and meet the recent-residence criteria generally need a valid TB certificate from an approved clinic.

For qualifying full-time degree-level study at a higher education provider with a track record of compliance, the usual limit is 20 hours per week during term-time. Other study categories can have different limits or no work permission.

Only some Student visa holders can bring dependants under the current rules, mainly certain government-sponsored students and qualifying postgraduate research students.

For applications made on or before 31 December 2026, the Graduate visa lasts 2 years for bachelor's/master's graduates. Applications from 1 January 2027 get 18 months. PhD/other doctoral graduates receive 3 years.

What makes the FLC approach different?

Not a standardised shortlist The course and university should make sense for the student's real profile.
Not paperwork for paperwork's sake Documents should support one consistent application story.
No visa-guarantee claims We prepare; UKVI decides.
One connected journey Admission, CAS, finance and visa preparation are planned together.

Your UK plan should be built around you.

Before choosing a university, let FLC assess your academic profile, target programme, budget, intake, funding sources and visa readiness. The goal is a practical roadmap — not a generic list of universities.
