Canada PR from Nigeria through Express Entry
A clear route map for Nigerian professionals, from ECA to landing
Express Entry for Nigerian Professionals
Express Entry is Canada's main system for skilled workers. Most Nigerian applicants qualify through the Federal Skilled Worker Program, which needs at least one year of continuous skilled work experience, a language score of at least CLB 7 and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for a foreign degree. Those with Canadian work experience may qualify for the Canadian Experience Class.
Eligible profiles are ranked by the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). IRCC invites the highest-ranked candidates in regular rounds, and some rounds target particular occupations or French-language ability. Provincial nominations add points too.
Your Route, Step by Step
| Step | What Nigerian applicants do |
|---|---|
| 1. ECA | Have your Nigerian degree assessed by an IRCC-designated organisation such as WES |
| 2. Language test | Take IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core (or TEF/TCF Canada for French) |
| 3. Profile | Create your Express Entry profile and receive your CRS score |
| 4. Invitation | If invited, you have 60 days to submit the full PR application |
| 5. Documents | Reference letters, police certificates from Nigeria and anywhere you lived, medicals, proof of funds |
| 6. Fees | CAD 1,590 for the principal applicant, including the right of permanent residence fee (about โฆ1.5 million), plus biometrics |
Settlement-funds amounts are updated every year; check IRCC's current proof-of-funds table before you create your profile. Naira figures are indicative only, converted at about โฆ957 per CAD and โฆ1,775 per GBP (late October 2026). Exchange rates move daily, and official amounts are set in CAD or GBP.
How to Raise Your CRS Score
Language first
Higher scores in all four skills are usually the fastest points gain.
French
Strong French can add substantial extra points and opens French-language rounds.
Provincial nomination
A PNP nomination adds a large number of points to your CRS.
Spouse factors
Your spouse's language score, education and Canadian experience can count.
Reference letters must describe your real duties. Copying the NOC description word for word, or overstating experience, is a common cause of refusal and can be treated as misrepresentation.
