About the Netherlands Visitor Visa
A Netherlands Schengen Visa (Type C) is a short-stay visa that allows you to visit Netherlands as your main destination and travel freely across all 29 Schengen states for tourism, family visit or business.
Applications are processed by the Netherlands Consulate (Mumbai) or Embassy (New Delhi) via VFS Netherlands after biometrics. Decisions follow the Schengen Visa Code (Regulation EC 810/2009) and are typically issued in 10โ15 working days, longer in peak season.

Tourism Visa
For sightseeing, leisure travel and personal trips up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Family / Friend Visit
Backed by a formal invitation (e.g. a Bewijs van Garantstelling (Proof of Sponsorship) signed by the host and legalised at the Dutch town hall) from a host residing in Netherlands.
Business Visa
For meetings, conferences, trade fairs โ must include invitation letter from the host company.
Multiple-Entry Visa
Issued (1, 2 or 5 years) to frequent travellers with a strong Schengen history.

Required Documents
- Valid passport (min. 3 months validity beyond return + 2 blank pages, issued within last 10 years)
- Schengen visa application form (signed)
- 2 recent passport-size photos (35ร45 mm, white background, ICAO standards)
- Confirmed round-trip flight reservation
- Day-by-day travel itinerary with hotel bookings
- Travel medical insurance โ minimum โฌ30,000 coverage, valid in all Schengen states
- Cover letter explaining purpose & duration of visit
- Last 6 months bank statements + ITRs of last 3 years
- Salary slips (last 3 months) / employment letter / business proof
- Leave-sanction letter from employer (if salaried)
- Visa fee payment receipt (~โฌ90 adult)
Financial Requirements
Maintain 6 months bank statements showing average balance equivalent to โฌ60โ100 per day of stay (โ โน6,000โ9,000/day). ITRs of last 3 years strengthen the file. Sponsorship is allowed if the sponsor submits an affidavit + bank proof.
Processing, Biometrics & Validity
Typically 10โ15 working days from biometrics. Apply 4โ6 weeks ahead in peak season (MayโSep).
Mandatory at the VFS Netherlands appointment โ fingerprints + photograph (valid 5 years across Schengen).
Personal interviews are uncommon. The consulate may call for clarification interviews in select profiles.
Maximum stay: 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen area. Visa validity may exceed your stay (1, 2 or 5 yr multi-entry for repeat travellers).

If visiting family/friends, the host in Netherlands provides a signed invitation letter, copy of passport/residence permit, proof of accommodation and a Bewijs van Garantstelling (Proof of Sponsorship) signed by the host and legalised at the Dutch town hall where applicable.
Travel Insurance
Travel medical insurance is MANDATORY โ minimum โฌ30,000 cover, valid in all Schengen states, including repatriation & emergency hospitalisation. We recommend ICICI Lombard, Tata AIG, Bajaj Allianz or Care Health.
